The Leafcocoon Shroud Cover Kit

£163.00

Although a felt cover for the Leafcocoon shroud is optional, its leaf shape adds an extra eloquence that many people find comforting and natural. This can be sent separately, so whether you want a long-term project or are working in preparation for a funeral, this can be a cathartic and soulful time to decorate, using a very simple needle felting technique, with instructions available on this site for free.

Other techniques that are suitable are embroidery and applique. In addition, the felt can be drawn on using charcoal, soft B pencils, chalk pastels (fixative advisable) or Sharpie pens.

Designed by Yuli Somme

Although a felt cover for a Leafcocoon is optional, many people find it a comforting and natural adddition. It can be ordered separately for you to work on at home, either as a long term project, or for an upcoming funeral. Dyed wools and equipment can be ordered below, or you can email me with specific requirements for a bespoke kit. You will need felting pads and needles for extra participants.

Like my other kits, there is intention and purpose in this experience, and the process is compelling, often cathartic, and companionable when shared with others.

The videos guide you through this simple process in a practical way, and within minutes you can be practising on small samples or on the cover itself.  Once mastered, your ideas will flow, the colours and blends will delight.  You can achieve quite a lot in a short space of time.

Using other materials?  the video focuses on needle felting, but this lovely woollen textile is ideal for appliqué and embroidery techniques as well. You can even use coloured (Sharpie) felt tip pens, chalk pastels, graphite and charcoal (non-toxic non-aerosol fixative is recommended for the latter three).

The dyed wool tops:

A superb colour range of wools from our Devon supplier of British wools. The wool tops are measured in approximate 10g portions. Please note, colours can vary and may not always be in stock.

Included in the starter kit

  • Leaf Shaped cover; The felt is 100% organic British wool, 5mm thick.   It does not flop like woven textiles but ‘floats’, similar to leather, softening the curves. Select your preferred colour and size. The covers are irregular shapes but they correspond with the Leafcocoon sizing of small, medium, large and are ample enough to cover the shroud.‍ ‍

  • Lifetime access to video tutorials

  • 120g a range of dyed wool tops enough for a cover and depending on design. The wool comes from a local Devon supplier. Stock clearing: An extra 40g will be included for free in orders placed before 28th August, 2026. After placing an order you can email: info@bellacouche.com if you have preferred colour choices, otherwise you will receive the selection shown.

  • Felting pad - 100% pure wool

  • Wooden tool with 4 needles (1 spare)

Optional extras - bespoke orders

Extra needling pads (£20), tools (including 3 needles £17) needles (£1 each) and dyed wool colours. Please specify your preferred colours.
